What is in Pro-Dosa BOOST and what do these nutrients do?

Pro-Dosa BOOST is a comprehensive, balanced, bioavailable multi-nutrient paste containing water soluble vitamins, electrolytes, trace-minerals, and un-assembled amino acids.

Horses under the stress of competition, transport or illness can become dull, go off feed, or fail to drink well. Pro-Dosa BOOST contains significant doses of nutrients that help to support normal appetite, thirst, hydration, muscle cell function, nerve cell function and mental focus, energy levels, and coat and skin condition. Pro-Dosa BOOST includes a sizable dose of vitamin C, a good antioxidant which is also necessary for the absorption of iron from the gut; balanced doses of all the B vitamins that play a role in metabolism, red blood cell synthesis, and energy production; trace minerals, included at the level of recommended daily intake, that play important roles in red blood cell production and many other metabolic functions; amino acids which are the building blocks for protein synthesis and muscle tissue repair and which play an important role in buffering systems; and a balanced dose of electrolytes including calcium, magnesium, and phosphorus as well as sodium, potassium, and chloride.

Due to the narrow therapeutic range for selenium and the risk of toxicity with oversupplementation, it has been left out.

Due to concerns surrounding cobalt and drug testing in competitive horses, it has been left out. Read our study…

Fat soluble vitamins are stored in the body, and therefore, they do not need to be fed in greater doses at the time horses are under stress. Instead, they should be fed daily as part of a balanced ration. They can be toxic if over-fed, and vitamin E binds with iron, affecting its absorption. As a result, the fat soluble vitamins were not included in our formulation

How do I give my horse Pro-Dosa BOOST?

Our preference, especially for horses that are not eating well, is to apply on tongue, but depending on the rules of competition for your particular sport and jurisdiction, you may have to put it on your horse’s feed. It’s in a molasses gel, so most horses like it and will eat it pretty well.

Pro-Dosa BOOST is only for racehorses, isn’t it?

No, not at all. While Pro-Dosa BOOST was originally developed as a pre-race treatment, it was formulated to replace essential nutrients lost by all horses during training, competition, transport, or stress. Pro-Dosa BOOST is now used throughout New Zealand, Australia, Asia, and the Middle-East in racehorses (flat, national hunt, Standardbred, and Arabian), endurance horses, polo ponies, show jumpers, eventers, and dressage horses after hard training, for competition, and for travel. It is also used at stud farms in the management of broodmares, breeding stallions, and for yearling preparation and sale.

Does Pro-Dosa BOOST contain any prohibited substances or will it produce a positive drug test result?

Pro-Dosa BOOST does not contain any banned substances. It is comprised solely of highly purified nutrients in a palatable gel and is manufactured under a GMP program that ensures product security and safety from raw ingredient procurement through manufacture. Quantitative analysis is done on every batch of raw ingredients and finished product to ensure that precisely what is on the label is what is in each syringe. Samples are cultured and analysed for common contaminants. Pro-Dosa BOOST is provided in single dose syringes to ensure nutrient stability and to prevent the contamination that may occur in multi-dose pots etc, and merchandisers are sealed with shrink-wrap.

Please feed according to directions and choose a route of administer after consideration of rules of competition that may apply to you.

Does Pro-Dosa BOOST contain cobalt?

Pro-Dosa BOOST with an expiry date after September 2019 will have been made without added cobalt.

In 2015, Dr. Corinne Hills of Pro-Dosa International Ltd conducted a study on the urinary excretion of cobalt. While she demonstrated the safety of Pro-Dosa BOOST as originally made with 1mg of cobalt, she was equally excited about the trial group given the negative control treatment of Pro-Dosa BOOST made without cobalt. These horses appeared to be better able to utilise the cobalt present in the daily ration, and wastage was reduced to zero. We are confident that horses fed our new Pro-Dosa BOOST without cobalt will do as well as they did with the original formulation, without causing worry and confusion among horsemen who have been advised to avoid feeding cobalt.
